Darrell’s drama, “ Transported for Life,” was played on Monday and last night, and was a brilliant success. Money was refused each night. The Press and public are enthusiastic. The scenic effects are all new ; and the piece will run all the week and a portion of next.

A petition bearing 192 signatures, protesting against the Maoris being settled on the confiscated lands near the European settlers, has been forwarded from Raglan and Waipu, for presentation to the House of Representatives. Roberts gave Perkins 500, and won by 38 points. Grahamstown, Wednesday.
The decrease in the value of silver is affecting the Thames. The banka have received notice of reduction in price from ss. to 4s. per ounce. This is equivalent to a reduction of price of Thames gold of 4d. per ounce. Christchurch, Wednesday.
Leonora Simonsen, daughter of Madame Fanny Simonsen, was married at the Jewish Synagogue to-day, to Mr. Davis, son of a Melbourne merchant. There was a crowded attendance. The Opera Company’s band played Mendelssohns’ wedding march. Dunedin, Wednesday.
A friendly rifle match between three Auckland and three Dunedin volunteers resulted in a victory for the former by five points. Carme, the French billiard player, concluded his season last night. He made a break of 310 cannons.
The Bishop of Dunedin last night lectured against the evolution theory. The land revenue for last quarter, exclusive of Southland, amounted to £124,470, The annual torchlight procession of the fire brigade takes place to-night, Mr. J. B. Taylor challenges anyone for £IOO to skate himself or Lillie.
