A SUGGESTION.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sib, —The following suggestion would tend, to prevent much loss bf life at sea. It might very easily be adopted by this Parliament for - all vessels under their control. , Iset all vessels carry two kinds of rockets, or other signal fireworks ; one white, and in white cases ; the other red, and in red cases. The red cases to be otherwise marked, so that in the darkest night there would be no mistaking white tor red. The white to be used only for ordinary signalling, the red for danger only. I could easily mention many cases where help was not given, as those who saw' the white rockets thought that the signals were for pilots only. When a vessel was run down in the Channel, the most intimate friend of her captain was passing two miles away in a steamer, and could easily have saved all on board; but seeing the white rockets only, he did not bear down. If our Lloyds’ agent approved; he might send the notion .Home to be adopted there.—l am. Jcc., ■ ■ 1 jf - ■■■;' Prevention.
