Cargill commander, arrived here at 10.30 o'clock last night from Sydney via Kandavau. Her trip through- ■ out has beeh maiked with fine weather, and the vessel herself la equal to any of the splendid.boats now on the line. Her run from Kandavau to Auckland has been made in three days, thirteen and a half hours, being the fastest on record; and the run from Napier to this port has, been ,accomplished iusixteen and a half hours. Amongst her officers we missed the face of Mr. Lloyd, her old purser, he having resigned. Mr. Robert Grahame now holds that position, and to him we are indebted for,the, following report of the voyage from Sydney:—The Australia cleared Sydney Heads at 4 p.m. on Friday, the 22nd ult.; from the 23rd to the 25th experienced strong winds from N.E. toE., and ou the 28th had a,brisk gale, with high head sea; at 7 a,m. of 29th dropped anchor In Kandavau harbor and at 1.50 P,m. same date the Company’s steamer City of Sydney arrived from New Zealand ; came alongside, received Australian mails, passengers, and-cargo.-and-at-6,20- p.m. she left for San Francisco.* On the 4th Instant at 8.15 a. rn. *tho s.s. City of New York arrived inwards from San Fran-cisoo-.came alongside the'Australia, and* transhipped New Zealand portion of mails, passengers, and cargo, and at 2 p.m, cast off.and proceeded to Sydney. - Thu same hour the Australia left for Auckland, at which port she arrived at 3.30 a.m, on Sunday, the Bth Inst., after a fine run of 3. days 13} hours from Kandavau; left Auckland same day at 6.30, arriving off Napier at 2a.m. on the 10th,Inst.;, landed and received mails, passengers, and cargo;.at 6 a.m. left for. this port, arriving as above. • Two 'addresses, were presented to the captain by the passengers, one at Kandavan and the other-at Auckland, in which the food, cooking, * and cleanliness of the, vessel are favorably mentioned. The Australia will sail from this port at 8 o’clock this morning for the South. * The p.s. Luna arrived here last evening at 6 o clock from Cape Campbell, 'On the way across Captain Fairchild visited the .supposed mast of the Heversham. It was found a Httie’outside Tom’s Rock, in twelve fathoms of water,‘standing upright. A line was made fast to It ami,Us position was soon altered. On being i taken; alongside-it proved to-be a topsailyard—doubtless one ,of the Heversham’s—which, , having some loo?e gear attached to it, fouled the, bottom; ‘ and. caused it "to stand up on its end.
