Barometer falling generally. , The barque Duke of Edinburgh sailed for Newcastle yesterday afternoon, taking a number of passengers. The topsail schooner Elibank Castle, bound to Oamaru, sailed yesterday at 7 p.m. 1 The p.s. Luna arrived on Saturday morning after an absence of nearly two months from this port. She left here on the 10th August for Lyttelton, where she loaded with railway material for Westport. On discharge of her cargo, went down the AVest Coast of the Middle Island in search of: any traces of the brig Briton's Pride, bat although the whole thirteen Sounds were carefully examined, and other places where it. was thought likely something might be found, of her, not the slightest trace could be discovered which would lead to the belief that the brig had been wrecked near the west coast of the Middle Island After the search' the tuna went to the Bluff, and from there on ta Lyttelton, where she took the balance of the rolling stock for Westport. Left Westport at 1.30 p.m. on Thursday last; stayed at Port Jackson,, .where .she surveyed the vicinity m which it is reported the Hawea struck. Captain Fairchild states that he found the water more shallow and the bottom more uneven in the passage Inside than he ever believed it was, and also says that no considers it dangerous for boats Of the Hawea ssize to go through it. The Luna will leave to-day for Cape Campbell with lighthouse stores, and may be expected back in two or three days. ■ . The mast which has been seen on several,occasions. by local coasters in the vicinity of Tom’s Rock, and believed to be a portion of the Heversham, was also sighted by Captain Welsh, of the schooner Cynthia, on his voyage from Peloras Sound to this port. Ho sailed quite close to it, and describes it to be the topmast of some largo vessel, standing about twelve feet perpendicular over waterv and apparently firmly held below. It. lies about half a mile from Karorl stream, and the top portion of it seems to be where the crosstrees are situated. Captain 'Welsh says that it* is very dangerous, and lies right in .the track of small Ruby from Kaikoura arrived here on Saturday afternoon. , , , „ , , ■The steamer Tui tolled at 6 o’clock on Saturday evening for Foxton, She is advertised to return there to The R.M,S.S. Australia, which arrived at Auckland yesterday, may be looked for. here late on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. .... The s.s. Wakatipu sailed for Sydney, via Hokitika, on Saturday at 11 a.m., with over 200 souls on board. Messrs. McMeckan, Blackwood, and Co. s s.s. Albion, Captain Clark, arrived hero on Saturday morning at 7 o’clock. • She left the Sandridgo Railway Pier at 11 a.m, on tho 27th ultimo, and arrived;at Hobarton at 7 a.m. on the 29th :. left at 6 p.m. same day, and reached tho Bluff at noon on the 3rd Instant. Sailed same evening, and made Port Chalmers at 8 a,tn. on the 4th; left for Lyttelton at 4.30 In the afternoon, and arrived there at X p.m. on tho 6th. Sailed lor this port at 2.30 p;m. next, day, arriving hero as above. Experienced fine clear weather, withUight northerly winds, throughout the passage.
