A SUGGESTION.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES, Sib, —There is a constant de nand for gravel in Wellington, the supply from the immediate. vicinity is' small, and the irruptions of;, the carters upon the small; beaches is a constant source of irritation to persons wishing to preserve those beaches, and form the subject of frequent actions in the court., ; In the. bed of the Hutt river there is an . unlimited supply of gravel. The floods are constantly, moving gravel, down ; from its sources,’thereby filling up the river bed, and increasing the damage done to, the adjoining laud, because water must have, rqom. . I would- suggest that some enterprising person should go into the gravel trade, riddle, the gravel of the Hutt fiver idto the required: size, bring it into town by faiUvay, and establish a depot where it-could bfr’proourfed by any one -who wanted it. : Probkbly :the railway would carry an article of this kind at a cheap rate. ' Thus Wellington would' be well supplied with gravel) and the bed of-the Hutt would be benefited. Every little helps.—l am, &c., X.
