The p.s. Manawatu, Captain Harvey, left Wanganui at 8.30 n.m. on Monday, and crossed the bar at 9 o’clock Experienced strong head wind, with heavy sea, and arrived here at 12.1 ft p.m. yesterday. Her departure for Wanganui has been postponed till 4 o’clock this afternoon. The s.s. stormbird was to have left Wanganui last night. She should arrive here this forenoon, and Is advertised to return to Wanganui this afternoon at The, fore-and-aft schooner Aspasia sailed for the East Coast early yesterday morning. The ketch Forest Queen, laden with railway material, sailed yesterday for Foxton. The s.s. Taranaki hauled round into No. 8 berth at the wharf yesterday. She now looks a perfect wreck, the whole of the decks over the machinery being cut away, and the officers quarters and smokestack removed. The large five-ton crane on the wharf has been placed alongside for the purpose of lifting the old boiler and machinery out and putting the new ones on board.

The steamer Hinemoa is expected to be brought alongside the Queen’s Wharf te-day. The New Zealand Shipping Company's ship Waikato has met with extremely quick despatch in the discharge of her cargo, which has been turned out of her in as good order as if from a warehouse. She finished discharging on Monday last, and yesterday morning hauled into the stream. She will go on the Slip in a few weeks, and after coming off will load for London.

The s.s. Bangatira is advertised to sail for Napier this afternoon. The steamer Kennedy left Greymouth for this port at 10.15 a,m. yesterday. She may be looked for here to-morrow, and is advertised to sail'for Greymouth via Nelsen and Westport, to-morrow. Persons desirous of sending freight and taking passage by her must apply at the office of the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company. The s.s. Kiwi arrived alongside the wharf from Kapler yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock, after a very boisterous passage of nearly fifty hours. She left Kapier at 3.30 p.m. on the 30th ult., with the wind strong frera the south, which increased together with the sea, till on rounding the Kidnappers it was blowing- a living gale, accompanied with a high running sea. The vessel was kept tacking on and off the land. At midnight on Monday the gale commenced to break, and when off Pahau at 4 o’clock yesterday morning it hadimoderated to a fresh breeze, and continued so till arrival here as above. She will sail for Castle Point and Kapier, taking cargo for Poverty Bay, this afternoon. We learn that an attempt will be made to day at high water to get the steamer Matan out of her uncomfortable berth on the West Coast. The Government have kindly consented to lend the services of the steamer Luna to tow her off. It is to be hoped that the attempt will be successful, for It would be a great pity to see this handy little steamer become a wreck at such an early period of her existence, and just when she was repaying her spirited and enterprising owners the money which they had spent in purchasing her. The steamer Albion from Melbourne and Hobarton via Southern ports will arrive here on Friday. She will sail again same day for Sydney via the West Coast, taking passengers for the Kumararush, and landing them either at Greymouth or Hokitika. Our telegrams mention that the Union Company’s new steamer Waitaki has arrived at Port Chalmers from Hobarton. The Waitaki was built by Messrs. Wingate and Co., of the Clyde, which firm, it will be remembered, failed, but the Union Company were fortunate in receiving delivery of her before the crash came. . She was reported to have left Glasgow on July 7th; was at Malta on the 30th; and reached Hobarton on the 24th ult. She was to have left there on the 26th. The trade in which she Is to bo employed is the Dunedin and Oamaru.
