Mr. Stevenson, the secretary for railways and roads in Victoria, has left the colony without any of the leave-taking which might have been anticipated from a gentleman occupying such a position. A very few days after his departure a letter was addressed to Mr. Stevenson by the Premier, stating that charges of a very serious nature affecting his character have been made, and that it will be necessary for him to return to the colony to clear himself therefrom. In the event of his failing to do this, he will not be allowed longer to retain his position in the public service.
