The following regulations under the Arms Acts have been, by Order in Council, brought into operation in the Middle Island ; —l. Any Justice of the Peace, Collector of Customs, or officer of police, may, in his discretion, grant a permit to any applicant to purchase not more than two pounds powder, twenty (201b5.) pounds of shot, and five hundred (500) caps. . . . 5. Every dealer shall, before delivering any ammunition to any purchaser, require such purchaser to indorse upon the back of the permit under which he is authorised, to buy such ammunition, a receipt, in words at length without the use of any numeral figures, for the quantity of each sort of ammunition he shall receive from such dealer, with his name and address, and date of the day of receiving such ■ ammunition. Failing in any of these particulars, r the dealer shall refuse to deliver to tbe purchaser any of the ammunition, and shall refund any money paid for the same. . . . 9, Any Justice of the Peace, Collector of Customs, or officer of police may, in his discretion, grant a permit for an increased quantity of ammunition to individuals, not exceeding twenty-five (251b5.) pounds of gunpowder and a proportionate quantity of shot and caps, when satisfied that it is required for station purposes and the like, and that it will be used for those purposes.' Every such permit shall be subject to rules numbered two to eight hereof inclusive.
