ORDINATION SERVICE.

At the Church of England Cathedral on Sunday Bishop Hadfield admitted to the order of priests the Rev. W. Ballachey a»d Rev. J. Teakle, gentlemen .who have in the past as deacons been engaged in ministering to the spiritual wants of the congregations at Karori and Masterton respectively. The Rev. B. W. Harvey, incumbent of St. Paul's, conducted* the ordinary morning service until the first hymn, when the Bishop addressed the candidates and the congregation from I. Cor. x. 11.He spoke of the typical character of the Mosaic ceremonial law, and pointed out that the apostle quoted the injunction against muzzling the oxen that trod out corn as involving a principle of permanent application to the Christian Church—that ministers of the Church should be maintained by the Church. This admonition totheprovisionforthe maintenance of the ministry must be .regarded as evidence of the existence of a definite purpose that there should be set apart a permanent succession of men whose duty it should be to perform the various functions of the ministry. The Bishop concluded his address byan earnest exhortation to the candidates, who were then presented by Archdeacon Stock. The litany was said by the Rev. B. W. Harvey, and the epistle was read by the Rev. Mr. Fancourt, Archdeacon Stock reading the gospel. After the hymn "Our Blest Redeemer, ere He breathed His tender last farewell," had been sung, the Bishop catechised the candidates as to their desire and fitness to be admitted, and the examination having been satisfactory, the " Veni Creator Spiritus" n-as sung, and hands laid upon them. To each was presented a Bible, the Bishop saying: " Take thou authority to preach the word of God and administer the holy Baeraments in the congregation where thou shalt be lawfully appointed thereunto." The communion service was then proceeded with.
