This fine vessel came into harbor at 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon with a light S.E. wind, and anchored at the powder ground. To Captain Sellars we are indebted for the following report:— “ On the 16th June started on oar voyage from Gravesend in tow of the steam tug John 8011, which left us in the Downs next day; made sail and proceeded, turning to windward against westerly winds. Landed our Channel Pilot at Portland at 7 p.m. on the 18th, and took our departure from the Start Point on the 19th; cleared the Channel on the 22nd, with a southerly wind ; next day got light winds from the northward, making poor progress. On the 3rd JulvgotN.E. trades in 20.0 deg. N., and 22.40 W., which proved light throughout ; lost them on the 9th in 2.0 N. and 25.0 W. • thence to the equator had S. andS.W. winds, which was crossed in 25.30 W., on the 19th July, 33 days out ; got S.E. trades in 2.46 N.; had moderate and squally weather with rain, hanging far south, and lost them on the 26th July in 20.39 S. and 33.30 W. ; from thence to 10th August had S.E. and E. winds, making very little progress Indeed. Passed the Cape on the 17th August, in 42.21 S., making us 63 days out; from the Cape till rounding Tasmania bad good running, some fine strong breezes, and very little wet weather. Passed Tasmania on the 9th Sept., without sighting land ; made Cape Farewell on the 16th; had S.E. and E. winds till the 14th, and then got a N.E. breeze, which finally settled into the N.W. and carried us into the Strait. On the 17th, at 10 a.m., Pilot Holmes came on board, his boat having to be hoisted on board also owing to the heavy sea running. The wind being too strong to come in he had to shorten sail and dodge about until yesterday morning, when a S.E. wind came up. and brought the shipinto harbor, arriving as above stated. Shebad on the wholea pleasant passage. Her eastings were run down on the parallel of 43 deg. until well east. Her best day's work was on the 14th August, when she did 291 knots, and the least 16 knots, having had very fine weather. On the sth July spoke a German schooner from Hamburg to Rio, 34 days out. Next day saw the ship Dartmouth, bound South. She brings a large general cargo, amongst which arc 200 kegs powder and five cases of cartridges. She also brings the new Cook Strait cable, which measures 45 miles long. The Zealandia will probably be berthed at the wharf to-day. She will enter at the Customs this morning. The usual notice to consignees appears elsewhre. The Union Company’s s.s. Ladybird arrived here at 7 a.m. yesterday. She left Port Chalmers at 4 p.m. on the 15th instant, arriving at Lyttelton atl p.m. on the 16th; left again at 11 a.m. on Sunday, and arrived as above. Experienced northerly winds and head sea throughout. The Ladybird left for Northern ports at 5 p.m. yesterday. The s.s. Moa towed over to Messrs. Coffey and Dixon’s slip yesterday afternoon the steamer Napier. The schooner Elizabeth Curie for Wanganui, laden with railway iron, left the harbor yesterday morning. Owing to the unfavorable wind blowing, she would most likely have to bring up in Worser Bay. The ketch Falcon sailed for Blenheim yesterday morning. The s.s. Alhambra is expected to arrive here tn-day from Melbourne via West Coast ports. She is advertised to sail for Melbourne via the South this afternoon. The steamer Wellington sailed for Southern parts at 3.30p.m. yesterday. She was to have towed to sea the barque Edwin Bassett, which vessel had brought up in Worser Bay, whither she had been brought by the s.s. Moa. Doubtless the Wellington would have a hard tussle to bring the barque out against the strong southerly wind blowing. The steamer Rangatira, Captain Evans. left Napier at 11 a.m. on Sunday; had light N.W. winds to Cape Palliser, theuco till arrival light southerly. Sho is advertised to sail for Napier to-morrow afternoon. The departure of the s.s. Kiwi for Castle Point and Napier has been altered till to-day. The p.s. Manawatu went round to the Patent Slip in tow of the steamer Moa yesterday morning She met with extremely quick despatch at the hands of the Slip people, for she was lauched in the afternoon, after having her bottom cleaned and the whole of the outside of her hull painted. She was towed round to the wharf by the steamer Rangatira. The Manawatu is announced to sail for Wanganui this afternoon.
