Amongst toe passengers is Mr. Clifford, formerly Curator of the Acclimatisation Societ]’. She brings 80,000 frozen spawn. ARRIVAL OF THE ZEALANDIA. The iron clipper ship Zealandia, 1110 tons, George Sellars, commander, was signalled yesterday morning, but owing to the heavy N. W. wind blowing she was unable to reach port last evening. She Is reported to have left London on the 14th June with the following passengers Chief Cabin :D. Peat, Jane Peat, Jane Peat. Isabella Hair, Rev. J. Lindsay, Miss Lindsay, J. E. Young, W. D. Campbell, Mr. Crokcr, P. A. Rive, and J, IV, Shaw, Second Cabin : S, C. Hill, H. Hill. Mr, Alien, P. Bristand, Miss Smith. Miss C. Smith, J. Gray, Caroline Gray, J. Franklin, Margaret Franklin, and John A. Franklin, Steerage .- 11. > . Twisleton, J. Whisker, J. Perry, W. Milhan, D. Glacken, H. J. Adams, J, Eaves, .7, W. Coleman, J. Thompson, and E. H. Thompson. Messrs. Levin and Co. are her agents. She is announced to be one of the first wool ships to be despatched from this port for London.
The barque Edwin .Bassett came off the Patent Slip on Saturday afternoon The steamer Napier, weatner permitting, will go on Coffer and Dixon's slip to-day. The schooner Cynthia, Welsh, master, arrived here on Saturday night from the Sound. The steamer Wellington, from Northern port*, arrived here on Saturday at 10 a.m. She is advertised to sail for Southern ports to-day. Some anxiety has been felt regarding the safety of the schooner Theresa, Captain Bissett, which left this port overa month ago for Wanganui with railway iron. The steamer Kiwi. Captain Campbell, arrived here last night at 10 o’clock from Flaxbourre. She did not come alongside the wharf, but made fast to a coal hulk lying in the stream, . Thop s. Manawatu will goon the Slip this morning. She will come off on Tuesday morning, and sail for Wanganui in the afternoon. . . The steamer Stormbird sailed for Wanganui at p.ra. on Saturday, in charge of Ca.pt. Holmes of the steamer Napier, Captain Doilc being unavoidably detained here. . „ „ _ The s.s. Tui sailed for Foxton at 4.15 p.m. on Saturday. . , ~ , The steamer Kiwi, Captain Campbell, sailed on Saturday for Flaxbonrne, where she will, if possible, land the remaining portion of her cargo. Her departure for Napier is fixed for this afternoon. Messrs. Beck and Tonk’s barque Malay, Captain Millman, which came to an anchor on Friday afternoon at the Heads, beat into the harbor on Satur >ay afternoon. She left Newcastle on the 4th inst.. wbh moderate west and northwest winds, which lasted till within 200 miles of Cape Farewell, when it rounded to the N.K. with heavy cross sea the glass at 20 40; wind continued ho for about two days, when it came up from the southwest. Sighted tin. land on Thursday last, and had strong westerly gale through the Strait, anchoring at the Heads at » o’clock on Friday aftcrnoonjgotunder way on Saturday morning and arrived hero as above. At between « and 10 o clock on Fridarnlght, when anchored at tholleads, thegalewas at its highest, and tho sea was flying over her. She was tugging very hard at her anchois, both of which were down, and Captain Millman had fears that she would part the cables. Reports passing the barque Nonpareil bound for Lyttelton, in the Strait, also another barque, bat was unable to make her name out. The Malay brings 470 tons coal. 120 pair naves, and 50 emx>ty casks for Messrs Reck and Tonka. Her next trip will be to Hobarton, for which port she is expected to sail on Saturday next. The steamer Easby, Captain Kennedy, sailed for Newcastle direct at 5 o’clock on Saturday evening.
Says the Auckland Herald of the 11th inst. There can, we fear, be no question but that the barque Union, which left Newcastle with a cargo of coal for this port, on July 17, has gone down, and *up to tho present no tidings whatever have been heard of her. The owners, Messrs. Scott, Henderson, and Co, of
Sydney, have been in communication ™th Messrs Stone Brothers, asking for mformation but this Utter firm are as ignorant of her whereabouts as the owners We understand that the cargo was insured on the other side for £SOO in the New Zealand Insurance Company, it is thought. Besides Captain Sherlock there would be nine or ten of a crew, the exact number and other details not having yet reached loading on the berth at London, July 21 for India, China, and the Cape of Good Hope, amounted to 63,810 tons, and for Australia and New Z a aland 00,352 tons. . The number of wrecks reported for the present year to date of July 15, amounted to 807.
