A CONTRADICTION.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —I notice in your paper of to-day that C. Ludwig says—“ Permit me a few lines in your paper. There are some Italians hawking about town some Mosaic jewellery, which they represent as ten carat gold and gild. I beg to inform the public at large that the metal therein is nothing else but brass, therefore those parties to whom such articles are offered I warn to be on their guard against imposition.” In substance, this skilful jeweller says he has purchased brass for gold. I do not know how much this confession may help him, but that does not concern me. What is my concern is to inform the public that the Mosaic jewellery sold to C. Ludwig and every other person is not brass, but is silver gild with a strong bath of gold at six and eight carats. But it is not the question how it is mounted, as the price asked is the value of the Mosaic work. lam quite willing to have the Mosaic work and setting tested before him or any other jeweller to prove that what I say is correct. —I am, &c.
Luigi del Yescovo. Wellington, 11th September.
