TELEGRAPHIC NEWS.

(per pbess agency.) Auckland, Thursday. Colonel Haultain has been appointed sheriff. A serious affray between two natives has taken place at Wharepapa, Waikato, concerning ground to sow wheat in. Te Kuma sowed it with oats, Kawhiti sowed wheat over the oats, and Te Kuma struck him twice on the back of the head, felling him to the ground. It is supposed he will die. Kawhiti's brother-in-law, Hote, seized Te Kuma and beat him. The latter ran to his hut, and bringing out a loaded gun fired at Hote, the cap snapping only. He was seized and bound. He is of the same tribe as the other, Ngatihane. Hote is a son of the late William Thompson. The King ordered Te Kuma to be sent to Hikurangi; he was taken on Monday. The Ngatihanes are angry, wishing to hand him over to the European law, and say if the King lets him off they will not tamely submit to the insult. Invehcaegill, Thursday. The provincialists of Winton and Longbußh, have held meetings, and carried resolutions similar in spirit to those which originated at the meeting held in Dunedin. Duxedin, Thursday.
