The unfortunate young'ltalian, fietro Corrado, whe shot himself yesterday, must have been possessed of no mean ability. He had not bein nmny months in the country, and had learned wh*t Knglish he did know since his arrival, yet he was able to speak and write in English with more than ordinary fluency. He was the translator from the original of a description of a new Italian ironclad which appeared in tho New Zealand Times not long since. When our reporter visited the hospital last night Corrado was still alive, but no hopes of his recovery wore held out. This being 80, we deßire to draw, amotion to some circumstances connected with this matter. It seems that Corrado's suicide, was the result of his thinking a recent dismissal from the post of messenger in one of the public offices au unbearable disgrace. It is quite certain that he

was dismissed because, rightly or wrongly, he was suspected'of having purloined a letter. Should there be, as seems inevitable, a fatal termination to his case,-it will be the duty of the coroner and jury to have all the facta connected with the matter before them.
