The barque Anne Melhuish got away for Newcastle yesterday forenoon. We learn that Captain Holmes, late master of the bripantine Enterprise, has been appointed to fill a similar position on the s.s. Napier, now undergoing repairs, Captain Butt having resigned. Captain Mundle has, It is understood, been appointed master of the Enterprise. The ketch Forest Queen and the schooner Elizabeth for Pelorus Sound sailed yesterday. No eligible private tender haviDg teen received by Messrs. W. and G. Turnbull for the schooner Merlin, they have determined to put her up for public competition. She will be offered for sale by Mr. George Thomas on Saturday next. The clipper schooner Herald will also be brought under the hammer on the same day. The discharge of the cargo from the ship Midlothian was in full swing yesterday. A large quantity ■was turned out in excellent order. The Dido and Falcon sailed for Blenheim yesterday. , . . The barque Edwin Bassett was towed round to Evans Bay yesterday afternoon by the steamer Mo* for the purpose of being taken up on the Patent Slip to have her bottom re-coppered. The steamer Kiwi left Napier at 12.45 p.m. yesterday. She may be expected here this afternoon. She leaves again for Castlepoint and Napier tomorrow. The s.s. Tui sailed for Foxton and Rangitikei at 4.15 p.m. yesterday. The Union Company's s.s. Wellington, Captain Carey, arrived here from the Northern ports at 8 o'clock yesterday morning. She left the Manukau at 3 p.m. on the 28th ult., and arrived off New Plymouth at 8 a.m. on the 29th; left again at 10.30 same morning, and arrived at Nelson at 5 a.m. on the 30th; sailed at 3 o'clock yesterday morning, and arrived here as above. She sailed for the Southern ports at 3.40 yesterday afternoon. The next Royal mail steamer carrying the inward San Francisco mail to arrivo here will be the City of Sydney. She is expected to arrive at Auckland od September 10, and may therefore be expected hete on the 13th. Her advertised date of leaving here for Napier, Auckland, Kandavau, Honolulu, and San Francisco, is September 22. The N.Z.S. Company advertise the splendid ship Dunbritton to sail for San Francisco on September 11, carrying a limited number of saloon, second cabin, and steerage passengers. The Dunbritton has unrivalled saloon accommodation, and her second cabin ia very conveniently situated. The ship herself is one of the best of her class that has ever been seen in these waters. Intending passengers should secure their tickets as s»on as possible.
