ENGLISH NEWS.
The following telegrams, which are taken from Australia papers, have not previously appeared in Wellington papers : London, July 18. The Victorian team of riflemen has secured several minor prizes. A small-bore match is arranged for next week, at the same ranges as that for the Queen's prize, between an Australian team and five each of English, Scotch, Irish, and Canadian. There will probably be five also from India. The team will probably be reinforced to eight by Australians at home for the Colapoor prize. No Australian has gained a place in the first sixty for the Queen's, though four take £3 prizes. The Association's silver medal was won with a score of 86 by Burgess, oi Newcastle. A score of 78 takes the badges. The highest Australian scorers are :—Draper, 77; Wardill, 74 ; King, 73 ; Sleep, 72 ; Greenfield, 67. Two of four Canadians take prizes. LATEST TELEGRAMS. London, July 15. Sir Julian Pauncefote has been appointed Legal Foreign Under Secretary. Mr. Bramston, formerly of Queensland, succeeds Sir J. Pauncefote at the Colonial Office. In the case Cross v. Albert Grant a verdict has been given for plaintiff for £IOO ; the costs amount to £9OOO.
