The time-ball maybe used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time would show 12b. 30m. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, pins er minus, of the chronometer. -. The p.s. Manawatu and the s.s. Stormblrd sailed for Wangmul at 10 o'clock last night. . The ketches Falcon, for Blenheim, and Otaki for Tory Channel, got under way yesterday afternoon, but as there was scarcely any wind, they had not cleared the harbor at nightfall. The steamer Matau got away for Foxton yesterday atnoon, taking 60 Immigrants ex Fritz Eeuter. The Matau will sail for Kalkoura, Lyttelton, Timaru, Oamaru, and Dunedin to-morrow. The s.s. Tui is expected to arrive here this evening from Weatport. She will sail for Foxton tomorrow. ■ " " Mr. James O'Shea, as agent for the ship Horsa, ■""itlnea elsewhere that all accounts against that vessel are U. b« rendered before 6 p.m. on Thursday. Some itev> ago a telegram from Melbourne staled that Mesura.'flivMeckan. Blackwood, and Co. intended to inaugurate a trwjfs between Hobarton and New Zealand. Arrangements are now completed for the carrying on of the service,' as we notice that on the next trip of the Albion from Sydney, and the Otago lrom Melbourne, they wilLboth call in at Hob<ut<m Wind favorable, the brigantine Wollomai will sail for Lyttelton to-day, where she will load with produce for Auckland.
• The line ship Caraperdown is expected to haul away from the wharf on Thursday morning. The s.s. Eaaby, which arrived here on Sunday night, left Port Chalmers at 6 p.m. on Thursday, and arrived at Timaru on Friday morning; left at 8 p.m., and reached Lyttelton at 9 ac.xa. on Saturday. Sailed at 7 a.m. on Sunday, and experienced a strong southerly gale, with a heavy easterly sea. On her arrival here she had to come to an anchorage off the wharf in consequence of the heavy gale blowing and there being no vacant berth at the outside T of the wharf, Her departure for Newcastle has therefore been postponed till 10 o'clock this morning. Tho p.s. Luna will go on the slip to-day to receive an overhaul.
There was no sign of tho Hangatira from Napier ■up to a late hour last nhjht. As there was a fresh breeze from the south blowing at-Castle Point last night, she Is probably kept a prisoner at her place o( shelter, which will most likely prove to be the Kidnappers. The vessel which arrived here on Friday proved to be the Arthur Conway, bound from Lyttelton to "Waltara. She put in here through stress of weather. The s.s. Napier will leave for Foxton to-morrow evening. The length of tho coast-line, number of ports, &c, In each of the colonies of Sonth Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland, aro set down as follows :—South Australia; extent'of coast line,-Z4OO miles; ports and harbors. 61 v ports' suitable, for vessel* of draught of 2A feet and over; -30;,suitable,for TM»el» of 12 feet draught, 45.
