In compliance with a requisition, the Mayor has convened a meeting for to-morrow, to consider the political situation. The Chamber of Commerce has drawn up a report on the San Francisco Suez mail service, attributing want of success to forks and coastal service.
A meeting of Bodney electors passed resolutions condemning the Counties Bill as unnecessary,road boards being adequate for all practical purposes, the General Government taking charge of main roads. The expenditure of £15,000 to change the site of the terminus at Helenaville was also condemned as unnecessary, the improvement of wharf accommodation being considered sufficient.

There is a large assembly of natives at Waitoma lamenting over the death of Patetoe, grandson of Takerei te Eau._ ’ Tawhiao’s youngest son is ill and not expected to live. Christchurch, Thursday.
All the examiners’ reports on recent examination for University scholarships here have been received by the Begistrar of the University, and the result of the examination will be made known in a few days. Dunedin, Thursday.
The house of Donelly, the burglar, who was captured yesterday, has been searched, and a complete set of housebreaker’s tools, wigs, aud disguises was found ; also two loaded pistols. He attended Sunday-school on Sunday, and in the evening broke into and robbed two premises. Some months ago a subscription was raised for the purpose of presenting the Hon. Mr. Eeynolds with a testimonial to commemorate his twenty-first year of public service. The committee sent to England for a service of plate, which, having arrived, will be presented next Monday. The Edwin Bassett arrived at Newcastle from Wellington on August 1, and the Anno Melhuish sailed thence for Wellington on the 2nd August. Land sales at Tapanui yesterday realised £22,000.
