Arrived: The Ringarooma.—The ship City of Cashmere was towed into port with 1700 tons of cargo and twenty-one passengers, from Glasgow, having been eighty-four days out. She carried away her maintopsailyard off Cape Saunders, but rode out the gale at the Heads. The s.s. Taupo returned to port on Saturday, being unable to get outside the Heads owing to the heavy southerly wind blowing. She left here on Friday, afternoon, but on getting round Halswell Point she encountered the full force of the gale; on arriving off the reef there was a tremendously heavy sea running. After keeping her thrashing at it for over three hours, and making scarcely any headway, Captain Worsp decided to anchor in Worser hay for the night. At daylight on Satnrday morning the wind was as strong as, ever, with a tremendous sea. -Seeing that there was no chance of getting out that day, she returned to port. She left again at 11 o'clock yesterday. The Wellington, -which left here at 4 o'clock on Friday afternoon, did not go any further than Worser bay, anchoring there for the night. She also returned to port on Saturday afternoon, and made another move for her destination at noon yesterday. The s.s. Matau left Foxton on Saturday at 9.45 a.m.; crossed the bar at 10.30 a.m.; anchored at Kapiti at 4 p.m.; sailed again at 11 p.m.; made the Heads on Sunday at 4.45 a.m., and arrived at the Queen's wharf at 6.30 p.m. Experienced strong southerly winds with heavy sea from Foxton to Kapiti; thencfi till arrival here south-east wind.. The ketch Reliance, which left this port on Friday, ran into harbor on Saturday at 2.15 p.m., Owing to the strong southerly gale blowing outside. THE DUNBRITTON. -■- - .This fine ship was towed up to an anchorage off the wharf on Saturday afternoon by the s.s. Taupo. The Dunbritton i 3 a splendid ship, and has superb cabin accommodation, being fitted up sumptuously. She is under the command of Captain M. Kennedy, who was beloved by all on board for his genial and kindly disposition. A very flattering testimonial has been presented to him by the passengers. The Dunbritton left London on May 3 and Gravesend on the sth : passed the Downs at 0 o'clock the same night: landed the pilot on the 7th ; had fine variable winds down the channel and: until sighting Maderia ; picked up the N.E. trades jn three days afterwards in lat. 26, long 21. They were not of much account, and ran out of them on the 23rd May in lat. 9, long. 25. The S. E. trades were shortly afterwards picked up with north of the line, in lat. 2, long. 29. Crossed the equator on the 26th May; lost the S.E. trades on the 7th June; on the 12th of the same month passed between the Island of Trinadad and Martin Tas rocks; rounded the Cape on the 21st June. ■ Had no lasting westerly winds in running down her easting, the wind being variable, with occasionally heavy gales. Came across the Southern ocean on the 46th parallel of latitude; sighted Tasmania on the 22nd July ; made the coast of New Zealand on the 3rd inst. Had fair wind through the Strait, arriving here on Friday evening, That evening, when the ship was going round, one of the legs of the second officer was caught in the .main brace and severely lacerated; fortunately no bones were broken. We are glad to say that he is progressing favorably under the caTeof Dr. Hayes, surgeon of the ship. The Dunbritton - spoke the following vessels : Dutch brigantine Gaenette, from London to Montevideo, in lat. 19.29 N., lon. 25.0.8 W.; American ship Storm King, from Liverpool to San Francisco, on the 25th May, in lat. 6.0.6 N., long. 23.16 W.: English ship Appelles, from London to Adelaide, on the 13th June, in lat. 26 S.. long. 22.24 E.; English ship Eden Holmes, from-London to Brisbane, on the 9th July, in lat. 45 S. 84.32 E. ; English ship Nereid, from Liverpool to Brisbane, on the 23rd July, in lat, 44.47 S., 149.20 E. . ■ ■ -
