THE FEATHERSTON MEMORIAL.

■ ♦ TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sib, —I regret much to read in this morning's paper that the Eeatherston Memorial Committee have decided that the memorial shall take the form of a bust. What more useless form could a memorial of any kind take? What possible good can it be, either to us or our children? ■ I have always thought that a memorial any good and useful man should take the form of something useful ; and surely one has not to look far to find some useful way of perpetuating the memory of such a man as Doctor Featherston. Why not, instead of wasting money upon a useless bust, found an orphan home, or a home for the aged and infirm. The want of such institutions as these is becoming more and more felt, especially the former, and I fully believe the people of Wellington would give more liberally if the object to which they were asked to give were one of real usefulness, than they will for the object decided upon by the committee. -1, for one, (and doubtless I shall not be alone), shall give nothing towards the proposed memorial, but would give as much as I possibly could i towards the providing of some such institution as I have mentioned.—l am, &c, Utilitas.
