MELBOURNE. (From tho Argus , July 22.) In the import market a fair inquiry has been experienced, and quite an improved business lias been done as compared with the earlier part of the week. Breadstuffs arc moving off very quietly. Flour maintains quotations, and sales are making for trade requirements at £l2 15s. to £l2 17s. Od. Wheat is steady at Cs. for fine northern. At auction ss, Cd. was offered for New Zealand, but refused. Wo understand that a line of 1200 bags Adelaide has been sold at equal to Gs. Id. delivered. Oats have not been marked by any sales privately, but at auction 500 bags New Zealand were disposed of at 3s. to 3s. lid., and 100 bags Tasmanian coast oats sold at 2s. loid~. Maize is selling at tho improved rate of 4s. now required. Sugars have a fair demand ; close on 500 bags were cleared off at prices rising to £34 for medium whites. Sales of good common congou teas at Is. 2d. are reported. We also learn of further sales of new season’s ; about 150 half-chests have been quitted. Trade parcels of D.R.O. candles are moving at 10}d.; wc note sales now at the price ; lib. salmon is very firm, 9s. 9d, being asked; offers of 9s. 7Jd. have been refused. A considerable parcel of currants has changed hands, and holders are now very firm at s|d. Tasmanian hops are going off slowly; about 43 bales very fair quality have been placed at Is. 2d.
