THEATRE ROYAL.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —Being present at Mr. Bates’s performance on Saturday evening last, I was exceedingly pleased to read the criticism that appeared in Monday morning’s Times, by “ Histriomastrix.” To my thinking, Mr. Bates’s “ Hamlet” was the best I have ever witnessed pourtrayed on the Hew Zealand stage, and no criticism could be too flattering towards that gentleman. I am sure I shall be glad to see the play again announced in the bills, and I hope the management will shortly afford me an opportunity of witnessing “Hamlet” a second time. I feel assured that those who have not yet seen Mr. Bates in the part of Hamlet will, after seeing his rendering of the Prince of Denmark, come to the same conclusion as myself, namely, that it is a performance that cannot be too highly recommended. —I am, &0., J.Gr. Lambton-quay, Wellington, July 26.
