Yesterday the wind having somewhat moderated, the large number of small steamers which had been kept prisoners in harbor got away for their respective destinations. The fleet comprised the following:— Napier, for Foxton ; Kiwi and Rangatira, for Napier; Matau, for Kaikoura and Lyttelton; and the Manawatu, for Wanganui. ’ Messrs. Patrick Henderson and Co.'s chartered ship Horsa, 1094 tons, Wadley, arrived here yesterday morning at 9.30. As we gave a summary of her voyage from Glasgow to Dunedin, it does hot need recapitulation. It will be remembered that she left Glasgow on the 18th March, and arrived in Dunedin on the 16th June, thus making a moderate run of 90 days. At Dunedin she discharged a considerable portion of her cargo, the balance being : for this port. Amongst her cargo are the engines and- boiler for the 8,0. Taranaki. The Horsa left Dunedin on Friday last, and had fair winds up the coast untir rounding Cape Campbell, where she met a strong S.E. gale, and bad to come to an anchorage in Clifford Bay, where she remained till 4 o’clock yesterday morning. Mr. James O’Shea is the agent of the Horsa at this port. Captain Wadley, of the ship Horsa, which arrived here yesterday, complained grievously to our representative of the manner in which the pilot service of the port is conducted. He states that when outside the Heads In the morning he hove-to his ship for the purpose of receiving the pilot, but an hour passed by, and although he made the usual signals for a pilot, no one came out to him to take his ship, into port. All this time he was drifting in shore, and the only alternative left him was to run up the harbor himself—a harbor the entrance to which he was quite ignorant of—the only guide be bad being his chart. However, a pilot in a different shape to that which he expected to see, turned up, being no less than the little steamer' Tui. Captain Bonner seeing the vessel steamed up to her and told Captain Wadley that if he followed the Tui he would lead him up the harbor. Captain Wadley Jumped at the generous offer, and safely piloted himself In out of all danger by following in the tracks of the Tui. After passing the pilot station he was boarded by the pilot. Captain Wadley wishes to express his sincere thanks to Captain Bonner for the valuable assistance ho rendered to him in piloting his ship into harbor. The Colonial Government p.s. Luna, Captain Fairchild, returned to port yesterdaymorning from Nelson at 1 o’clock, with the Governor on board. She left Nelson at noon on Tuesday, and anchored off Mackay’s, where Governor and party were taken on board. Left at .20p.m., and had fine weather to the Brothers; from thence till arrival strong southerly wind, with a heavy tide rip in the Strait. The Luna will leave here as Koon as the weather moderates, for Cook Strait, for the purpose of taking soundings for the laying of the proposed second cable. ■ , w j - Messrs, McMeckan, Blackwood, and Co.'s a.a. The following is a report of the round voyage:—Left Wellington at 8. pan. on the.l7th, and arrived at Westport at 7 a m. on the 19th ; in three hours time was steaming away for Greymouth, which port she reached at 8 o’clock the same night; sailed from Greymouth at 9 o’clock next morning,, and was brought up in Jackson Bay at 10 a.m. on the 22nd, where she disembarked immigrants, and in three hours commenced tlw return trip; reached.
