A rather novel feature in the matter of tug-boats was to be seen yesterday. Some time on Wednesday night or Thursday morning the coal hulk Gazelle broke loose from her moorings, and drifted down as far as Kaiwarra, where she was brought up by another anchor being let go. The brig Eobin Hood, which was anchored in that direction, made fast to the hulk and towed her up to the wharf. . , ... The Taranaki, from the North, will arrive here this morning, and sail for the South to-day at 3 p.m. The brig Neptune, which arrived here on WednesQay night, left Newcastle on the 27th June, and had a light easterly wind varied occasionally by a fresh gale with heavy sea. Had light easterly winds when in the Strait. Was off the Heads on Tuesday, and was towed np the harbor on Wednesday night by the Buna. Captain Yule begs to express his thanks to Captain Fairchild for his kindness. . The brig Eobln Hood experienced somewhat similar winds and weather to that of the Neptune. The two vessels whose arrival here on Wednesday night we noticed yesterday turned out to be the ketch Thames from Pelorus Sound and the schooner Amaranth from Onehnnga. Both are timber-laden. The Union Co.’s s.s. Hawea arrived at the wharf yesterday morning at 10 o’clock from Southern ports. She left Port Chalmers at 2 p.m. on the 18th inst., arriving at Lyttelton at 10 a.m. on the 19th; left again at 4,30 p.m., and arrived as above. Experienced fight head winds, with thick rainy weather, throughout. The Hawea leaves for Picton, Nelson, New Plymouth, and Mannkau to-day at noon. The s.s.
