Slight swell. Blurt.—3olo—N.W., light; fine. The little schooner Ruby arrived in our harbor yesterday morning at 3 o’clock. She left Kaikoura at 6 o'clock the previous evening, and has thus made a good run of ten honrs. A strong southerly wind followed her all the way across. . The steamers Matau and Napier, both bound for Foxton, are still unable to leave here, through the strong southerly wind blowing. . . The prevalence of a southerly gale on the west coast of the North Island prevented the Stormbird and Manawatu from leaving Wanganui for this port on Thursday. As no telegraphic intelligence was received up to 8 o’clock last night, they are still probably barbound. „ _ „ . - Messrs. McMeckan, Blackwood, and Co. s line steamer Albion, Captain J. W. Clark, left Sydney at 4 p.m, on the sth inst; arrived off Hokitika at 4.30 p.m. on the 10th. Experienced light N.E. breezes, with fine weather, throughout the passage. Was tendered at noon on the 11th by the s.s. Waipara, and at 1.30 p.m. proceeded on direct for Nelson; arrived off the latter place at 8 p.m. on the 12th, a strong N.E. breeze having blown the whole way. Left Nelson at 1 p.m. on the 13th, and experienced a very heavy southerly gal© all the way till arrival here at 445 p.m: yesterday, after a rather protracted passage of 28 hours. She brings 150 tons general cargo for the port.
