The time-ball maybe used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time would show 12h. 30m. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus, of tho chronometer. The s.s. Ladybird was taken up on the slip yesterday morning. She is expected to come off to-«ay, and is advertised to sail for Lyttelton, Akaroa, Timaru, and Port Chalmers to-morrow at 4 p.m. The p.s. Manawatu took her departure for Wan ganuiatsp.m. yesterday. Messrs. Levin and Co., as agents forthc barque Fyrn, give notice in our advertising columns that in consequence of the vessel, on her recent voyage from London, having made sacrifices which will form a general average claim upon tho cargo, it will bo requisite for consignees, before obtaining delivery, to pay a deposit of one-half (10s.) per cent., and to execute a bond to pay the correct sum, less the deposit, on completion of the average. The s.s. Phoebe sailed for Southern ports at 3.50 p.m. yesterday. There were no fresh arrivals yesterday. The s.s Napier sailed for Foxton with a full general cargo yesterday at 6.15 p.m. The s.s. Kangatira came off tho slip yesterday morning, and was towed round to the wharf. The extensive alterations to her are now being rapidly brought to a finish, and it is expected that she will bo able to resume her running on the East Coast by "Wednesday next, for which day she is advertised to sail to Castle Point and Napier at 5 p.m. The sailing of the Kiwi for Co3tle Point and Napier has been postponed till to-day at 2 p.m.
The wharf has once more assumed a businesslike aspect, nearly every berth being taken up with vessels either discharging or loading. The s.s. Jane Douglas left here yesterday at 5 p.m. for Napier and Poverty Bay. The ship Camperdown was berthed at the wharf yesterday. She will break bulk this morning. Amongst her cargo are 000 tons railway iron and two locomotives. The barque Pym discharged her cargo of powder yesterday morning, and hauled into No. 0 berth at the -wharf, where she will put out the remainder of her cargo of general merchandise. Consignees are requested by Messrs. Lovin and Co., as agents for the Pym, to pass entries and pay freight, otherwise the goods will be stored at consignees' risk and expense
