RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Tuesday, December 28. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M., and Major Paul, J.P.) Henry Foy, John McDougall, Lauretta Xyleson, and Jane Clima were each fined ss. for having been drunk and incapable the previous day. Charles Mallowes, who had been very drank and had created a disturbance on the cricket ground, was fined 40s. ASSAULT. George Leonard, charged with having on the previous day assaulted Mary Smith Green, was fined 40s. In a beastly state of intoxication, he had gone up to prosecutrix's house and demanded admittance. He was kept out, bat threw stones and attempted to strike her. Edward Harvey and Elizabeth Harvey were charged with having assaulted a woman. It was proved that the male prisoner had struck her and kicked her several times, while the female prisoner had urged him on and thrown water over her. The Bench convicted Edward Harvey, and fined him 405.; but seeing that young children would suffer if the other prisoner went to gaol in default of payment of a fine, she was discharged with a, caution. LAHCENY. William Hunt pleaded guilty to an information charging him with having stolen a watch, the property of Charles Parker, a seaman on board the Chile, and was sentenced to six months' imjjrisonment. ATTEMPT TO 3IUHDEB. Franz Smatt -was charged with having, on the 2fith December, cut and wounded Henry Young with intent to murder him. Prisoner was remanded till Monday.
