(VBOM OVII OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Westport, Friday. At the sitting of the District Court to-day, a bankrupt named McKenna had his certificate suspended for fifteen mouths for fraudulent preference. The Halciono Quartz Mining Company, in which people here have invested heavily, has come to grief. The company has £IO,OOO worth of machinery on the ground, and has spent £3OOO in works. A winding-up order has been applied for, but it is believed arrangements will be made for carrying on the workings. The yield has fallen off latterly. The:result of the poll was as follows: —Macandrew, 891; Stout, 865; Laruach, 843; Keyuold, 476 ;‘ Macassey, 409 ; Fish, 238. Macandrew, Stout, and Laruach were put forward by the Anti-central League, and were thus elected. The difference between Reynolds and the three elected persons has caused immense surprise.
