PEDESTRIANISM.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEAXAND TIMES. Sir, —I notice a reply to my letter in your columns from Jephson (I believe he is better known in New Zealand as W. Edwards), in which none of my statements are disproved, and in which this individual merely gives himself the puff direct. His assumption of the championship of California is almost too absurd for reference to; but I may state that he has carefully refrained from naming the day or the month in which such an important trophy was given away. His assertion will not prop up his credit long, as I shall shortly be in a position to forward a copy of the Alta California, showing that such a race was not walked there at any time, much less in 1871. This I think will set the matter at rest unless Mr. Jephson accuses me of conspiring with the editoi of that journal to ruin his reputation. I shall not trouble you further on the subject until I enclose the paper itself to prove my words.—Yours, &c, Alfred F. S. Austin.
