TO-DAY’S RACES.
Should the day prove fine, sport of a character never previously equalled may be expected upon the Hutt course. On the whole, the fields are respectable in point of numbers, and so well matched are the horses in point of quality that most exciting finishes may be anticipated in the Maiden Plate, Cap, and Provincial Plate. Notwithstanding anything which may have been written by parsons who have not visited the Hutt for a week or ten days, the course is in splendid order : as level as a bowling-green all round, and nicely softened by the recent rains. The Governor has announced his intention of being present, and will arrive on the course in his drag about a quarter-past twelve; and as there are a large number of strange faces in town a good attendance is a certainty. The first race will start precisely at 12.30. The following are the entries for the various events : Maiden Plate, for all horses that have never won a stake exceeding 20 sovs.: weight forage.
