THE CITY ASSESSMENT.
The City Council met last evening, to hear appeals against the assessment. There were present his Worship the Mayor, Councillors Mills, Gillon, Cleland, Rainie, George, and Greenfield. The following business was done ; Mr. Dempsey’s assessment reduced from £40,t0 £25. Mr. A. Waters’ assessment reduced from £4O to £35. Halley and Ewing’s assessment reduced from £250 to £l5O. Mr. George Tattle’s assessment reduced from £35 to £3O. Mr. Davill’s assessment reduced from £4O to £lO, owing to clerical error. Mr. James Petherick’s assessment reduced from £35 to £3O. Mr. E. W. Petherick’s assessment reduced from £SO to £4O. Mr. A. McCarthy’s assessment reduced from £35 to £25. Mr. E. S. Cheeseman’s office was rated at £4O a year. Mr. Milstead’s assessment reduced from £4O to £2O. Mr. G. Samson’s assessment reduced from £BO to £SO. Mr. J. Casey’s assessment reduced from £BO to £SO. Mr. E. Brandon’s assessment reduced from £BO to £65. Mr. Heard’s assessment reduced from £55 to £SO. Mr. Kilminster’s assessment reduced from £25 to £2O. Mr. Judd's assessment reduced from £25 to £2O. L. Roisterer's assessment reduced from £25 to £2O. . The assessment on Mr. Howe’s property m Willis-street, occupied by himself and Mr. Thovuburn, was increased from £BS to £IOO. 0. H. Stutfield’s assessment reduced from £SO to £3O. Mr. Parker’s assessment reduced from £6O to £SO. Mrs. E. Levell’a assessment reduced from £250 to £2OO. Mr. Buck’s assessment reduced from £SO to £3O. 3 „ Mr. J. Petford’s assessments reduced from £25 to £2O (two properties). Assessment on Mr. Smith’s property, Ghuz-nce-street, reduced from £7O to £6O. Mr. James Smith’s assessment reduced from £350 to £275. Messrs. McLeod and Co.’s assessment (sawmill property) reduced from £464 to £3OO. Mr. W. H. Davis’s assessment reduced from £75 to £7°. t „ , , Mr. E..W. Mills assessment (foundry) reduced from £450 to £350. Mr. J. Lawrie’s assessment reduced from £6O to £SO. Mr. O. Moody’s assessments reduced from £65 to £55 and £45 to £4O. Mrs. Sarah Wilkinson’s assessment reduced from £4O to £3O. Mr. Sutherland’s assessment reduced from £6O to £45. Mr. Moran’s assessments reduced from £4O to £35 and £ls to £B. Mr. Thomas Evans’ assessment reduced from £3O to £27. Mr. A. de Brandon's assessment reduced from £25 to £2O. Mr. T. J. John’s assessments reduced from £SO to £45 and £45 to £4O. Mr. D. Eirmin's assessment reduced from £IOO to £6O. Mr. S. Jones’ assessment reduced from £2O to £ls.
