(from our own correspondent.) Westport, Friday. The Commission took voluminous ovidenco to-day in the case of two 'parties who claim for the same .section. One claims £2OOO, the other £IOOO. The latter leased to the former hut the lease turns out to be valueless asmo title to the land over passed. The Commission will, therefore, easily dispose of ono claim or the other. Westport reminds one of Bret Harte's Roaring Camp. Two parties yesterday pulled out their pipes 'and smoked in court. They were mildly rebuked by Judge Weston.
! Graiiamstown, Friday. Sir George Grey has expressed himself highly favorable to the Thames and Waikato railway, and told a deputation that if the Government would pass a Bill guaranteeing a dividend, a company could easily be formed to make the line. The same experiment has been tried by him at the Cape. Napier, Friday. The offer of Watt Brothers for their, artesian well and land was declined by the Corporation. An offer was made by the Hon. John Johnston to sell a town section, No. 364, for £SOO, as a site for waterworks. The tender was accepted. The Spit is not to bo included in the area rateable for waterworks, Dunedin, Friday. Mr. George McLean, M.H.R., addressed a large meeting of the electors at Kilmog last night—Mr. Pryde in the chair. Mr. McLean entered fully into an explanation of his action during the late session of the Assembly, and at the termination of his speech was severely catechised on the loading questions by those present. A unanimous vote of confidence in him was carried. Mr. McLean addresses the electors at Waikouaiti this evening.
