WELLINGTON DISTRICT HIGHWAY BOARD.

A meeting of the above Board was held yesterday at the Hntt. Present : Messrs. Sinclair, Speedy, Searanke, Taylor, Monaghan, Smith, and T. Mason (chairman). The minutes of the last meeting having been read - and "confirmed, the following payments were passed:—Repairs, £47 4s. 10d.; contingencies, £lB 3s. Id. Moved by Mr. Sinclair and seconded by Mr. Smith,— “That the letter signed by six ratepayers, of ward No. 1, giving notice of their intention to ask for a separation of their wards from the district so as to form a separate district, having been considered, the Board expressed no .dissatisfaction with the proposition, provided the separation does not take place until the - dose of the present financial year (June 30, 1876).” The tender of William Howell, for keeping in .repair the main road in the Pahautanui small farm district, for twelve months, for the sum of £BS, was accepted. Mr; Sinclair moved, and Mr. Taylor seconded, —“That the clerk he instructed to ask the Superintendent to direct an engineer to lay off a lino of road from the termination of the Lower Wainuomata-road towards the coast, through sections Nos. 14, 15, and 16 ; and also a line of road leading from the termination of the Upper Wainuomata-road, through sections Nos. 29, 30, and 31.—Carried. The following tenders were accepted : Henry Damant, Horokiwi-road, £65; John Morgan, old Porirua-road, £46; Thomas Morgan, Upper Tnkapa-road, £l9 ; John -Morgan, Porirua Bay-road, £lO 10s.; Thomas Morgan, South Tukapa-road, £18; Thomas Witton, Otari, Wadetown, £35. The sum of £lO was voted, on the motion of Mr. Taylor, for metalling the Tawa Flat Bchoolhouae road. A motion in favor of the rates collected in the district outside Karori (that is the Ohiro and Peninsular districts) being expended in those districts, was carried. Several tenders were agreed to be accepted, subject to the confirmation of the Board at its next meeting, in January.
