Sea smooth. Oamabu. rough sea. The s.s. Phoebe, Captain Worsp, came alongside thewharf at 8.30 yesterday morning from Picton, Nelson, Taranaki, and Manukan. She left the latter port at noon on Thursday last, arriving at Taranaki at 4.30 next morning ; left again at 6.30, and arriving at Nelson at midnight; left for Picton on Saturday, at noon, and reached that place at 9 p.m., leaving at 2.30 yesterday morning. From Manukau to Nelson experienced light S.W. wind and fine weather; from thence to Nelson strong westerly breeze; from Nelson to Wellington strong S.E. gale, with heavy sea. Captain Worsp reports passing in the Strait on Saturday two large pieces of burnt timber, apparently some part of a vessels beam; also the schooner Mary Webster, at Taranaki, taking in ballast for Sydney, via Kaipara. The s.s. Ladybird, Captain Andrew, arrived in harbor yesterday at 7.30 a.m., bringing the Suez mail She left Port Chalmers on the 19th at 2.10 p.m., reached Lyttelton at 10 a.m. on the 20th, leaving again at 3.30 p.m., arriving as above. Experienced strong head winds to Lyttelton, and from thence strong fair wind, veering from South to S.W. She leaves again this day, at 2 p.m. for Northern ports. The ketch Falcon, Captain Bisk, from Blenheim, arrived in port yesterday morning, leaving thence on Saturday morning. Had a heavy gale from S.W. j and hove-to for one hour and a half, being unable to distinguish the entrance or light, owing to the thick dirty weather, and brings 75 bales wool, 8 cases, and 105 bags potatoes. She will leave again for Blenheim direct on Tuesday evening. The s.s. Kiwi, Captain Campbell, left Napier last Thu.sdayat 7.30 p.m., and arrived at Porere early next morning, took on board 91 bales of wool, and left again for XJnti at 1 p.m., and anchored there on Saturday morning, shipping 77 bales of wool, leaving at noon for Wellington. Spoke the schooner Unity off the Kawau rocks at 3 p.m. on Saturday, loaded, and bound for Wellington. The Kiwi ronndod Cape Palliser at 8 p.m. on Saturday, with a fresh N.W. wind, and at 10 p.m. the wind suddenly chopped to the south, blowing very hard, thick._with rain. Was abreast of Pencarrow light at midnight, the weather being so thick and dirty that Captain Campbelldecided to drop anchor till daylight. She arrived alongside the wharf yesterday morning at 8 o’clock. Her cargo consists of 222 bales of wooL The s.s. Rangatlra came off the patent slip on Saturday afternoon at 3 (where she had been to get her bottom cleaned and painted), and after getting her steam up took hold of the ship Chile, towing her, to an anchorage off the wharf. The Rangatira will leave at 4 p. m. this day for Napier. The s.s. Albion, Captain Clark, left the wharf at noon sharp yesterday for Melbourne, via South ports, with a few passengers. The schooner Cynthia arrived in port yesterday forenoon from Kaipara with a cargo of timber for Messrs. Greenfield and Stuart.
