Also, ship Canterbury from London, seventy-eight days out, with thirty-one passengers, 1400 tons general cargo, fifty sheep, , three horses, and twenty-three head of cattle —all in splendid condition. The schooner Aspasia, Captain Thompson, arrived yesterday from the East Coast, with a cargo of wool for the Halcione. The s.s. Egmont left at C p.m. for Wanganui, with a full cargo and three passengers. She returns here direct. . The ship Chile (which will leave here for London) came oft the slip on Thursday-morning, and is still at anchor in Evans Bay. A steam-tug is much required for this port, aud we wouder some enterprising firm has not started one ere this. However, we hope to have one in June next, which is being built especially for the purpose at Newcastle, We learn from a private letter received, that the ship Abergeldie, 1200 tons, of Aberdeen, with a full cargo of wool, tallow, hides, &c., from Sydney to London, had returned to Sydney on the 6th inst., with loss of topmasts and sails. The-new schooner Kalkosura, 31 tons, built and launched in Auckland for Captain Davidson, of the Kaikoura, will leave Auckland to-day direct for the owner’s place. Captain Dalton, at present master of the regular trader Ruby, will take command on her arrival here; and Captain J. Anderson, who is bringing the Kaikoura down, will take Captain Dalton’s There are at present in harbor two smart schooners, owned by E. Pearce, Esq., of this city, which , certainly are a credit to the port. Any person going on the wharf and looking at them, would naturally think they were some yachts instead of coasting-vessels, the manner in which they are kept—the ropes hauled taught, the sails snugly furled, and decks (where one could eat a meal off), are certainly matters tliat show there is a little man-o’-war discipline kept up.
