WESLEYAN DISTRICT MEETING.
The annual District Meeting in connection with the Wesleyan Church began its session yesterday morning at 10 o’clock, in the vestry of the Manners-street Church. The following ministers -were present :—Revs. W. Morley (chairman of the district), J. B. Richardson, J. Law, J. S. Smalley, J. G. Carr, H. R. Dewsbury, and Hetaraka Warihi. The meeting opened with prayer offered by the Revs. Messsrs. Richardson and Smalley. The Rev. J. B. Richardson was unanimously elected secretary. Notice was given to the student, Mr. S. Lawry, at present residing at the Hutt, that he would be required to attend for examination on Tuesday and Wednesday. The usual questions respecting ministerial character having been asked and answered satisfactorily, the meeting listened to the report given in by the Rev. Hetaraka Warihi concerning Maori work. The Wellington and Wairarapa circuits sent in, by their representatives, a request for an additional man each. The Wellington quarterly meeting expressed its readininesa to undertake all responsibility of providing for a man, but that at Greytowa asked for a grant-in-aid from the Home Mission Fund for at least two years. The question, after some conversation, was referred to the Financial District Meeting. In considering the number of country districts that have no spiritual supervision, it was proposed by Mr. Smalley that the Conference be earnestly pressed to appoint district evangelists. This subject was also referred to the financial meeting. All the ministers in full connection were appointed members of the Connectional Committees.
Prayer and the Benediction by the Rev. the Chairman brought the day’s session to a close.
