The s.s. Stormbird, Captain Doile, arrived in harbor yesterday morning', at 8 a.m. She left Wanganui at 8 p.m. on Saturday ; crossed the bar at 8.40. Had light N. W, winds and heavy cross sea all the way ; off Cape Terawlti it blew a gale. Captain Doile reports the barquentine Falcon at anchor the Heads ; but will have to lighten before she will be able to pass over the Flats. The Frank Grey has got through the bridge, and was towed up on Saturday by the Tongariro to the Railway Bridge last Saturday, The s.s. Rangatira, Captain Griffiths, left Poverty Bay on Friday (12th); arrived at Napier, 6 a.m., 13th ; leaving again at 11.30 a.m. same day. Passed the Kidnappers at 1 p.m,, and was off Castle Point 1.20 a.m. yesterday; rounded Cape Palliser at noon, and entered the Heads at 5.45 p.m., arriving alongside the wharf at 7 p.m. Experienced from Poverty Bay to Portland Island light S.E. winds, and from thence to Napier a fresh westerly breeze ; from Napier to Cape Turnagain light S.E., and the remainder of passage a strong W.N.W. wind with heavy sea. She leaves at 4 p.m. this day for Castle Point and Napier. The schooner Saucy Lass, Captain Callow, arrived in port yesterday forenoon, from Pelorus Sound, which place she left at 9 p.m. on Saturday, clearing the Sound at 4 a.m. yesterday. Had a strong N.W. gale through the Straits, at times blowing feather white. Sighted a ship yesterday morning running through the Straits, bound South. 7 his may probably be the Duke of Edinburgh from London for Lyttelton. The Saucy Lass brings 20,000 feet of sawn timber for Messrs. Greenfield and Stewart. . „ The p.s. Manawatu, Captain Evans, arrived from Wanganui on Saturday at 9.30 a.m. She left that port on Friday, at 7.30 p.m. ; had strong westerly winds, and a heavy beam sea. She towed the threemasted schooner Frank Guy into Wanganui on Friday morning, and the barquentine Falcon on Friday evening. After discharging her cargo at the wharf she was hauled to the breastwork, and commenced taking the engines to pieces. She goes on Messrs. Coffey and Dixon’s slip on Tuesday. The ketch Falcon got away at 6 p.m. on Saturday for Blenheim, with eight passengers. She calls at White’s Bay to land Mr. Smith, the Government Machinist, and some telegraph poles. The s.s. Ladybird, Captain H. J. C. Andrew, left the wharf yesterday at noon, for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers, with a large number of passengers. The s.s. Egmoat, Captain Irvine, will leave for. Wanganui this day, at 3 p.m. Thess. Ladybird, Cap tarn EL J. C. Andrew, left the Manukau at 4.30 p.m. on the 10th; arrived at Taranaki at noon next day; left again at 10,30 p.m.; arrived at Nelson at 5 p.m. on the 12th : left at b. 30 p.m.; reached Picton at 6 a.m. Saturday; left again at 7.10, and arrived alongside the wharf at 12.30 p.m. Experienced fine weather throughout. , _ . The Edwin Bassett, Captain Forster, arrived in harbor on Saturday morning, from Newcastle, which port she left 2nd inst. Experienced moderate westerly winds, and fine weather. Passed a ship off Mana Island on Friday. We imagine her to be the Kmfauns Castle, bound to Newcastle. . _ ... The schooner Hannah Barratfc, Captain Renner, left this port on Saturday afternoon for Pelorus Sound to load timber for Dunedin. . , The s s. Rangatira will leave for Castle Point and Napier at 4 p.m. this day. It was originaUy intended to put her on the Slip before she started again, but the ship Chile not coming off before Wednesday, has altered the arrangements. On her crossing the bows of the barque Union at >o. 3 berth, the peak downbaul of the Hannah Broomfield caught the flying-jibboom of the barque, breaking it in two. , _ . - „ The baroue Union shifted her berth on Saturday afternoon,*from No. 3to No. 8. In so doing, one of her lines parted, causing her to foul the barque Edwin Bassett, bringing down the gaff and boom, carrying away starboard poop rail, and damaging her counter.
