Gov. Tjiumuull, of Connecticut, on tho occasion of a grand riot, ascended a block and attempted by a speech to quiet the people, when a random missile, hitting him in tho head, felled him to tho ground. He was badly hurt, and as his friends were carrying him into his house, his wife met him at tho door and exclaimed ; “ Why, my husband, they have knocked your brains out!" “No, they haven’t" said the Governor; *' if I had any brains I shouldn't have itone there !"
