Napier, Captain Butt, left Foxton at 1 p.ni. on the 7th; crossed the bar at 3 p.m., and arrived alongside the.wharf, at 1.30 a.m. yesterday.. Had N.W. wind and heavy sea all the way, and reports the following vessels at anchor under Kapifci:—Ocean Bird, Canterbury* Neptune, Falcon (barquentine), and Lillie Hawkes, the -latter, twenty-three days from Oamaru for Kaipara, with all the starboard main rigging gone ;• also two schooners, names unknown. She leaves on Wednesday for Foxton. : 1 s:*• The g L g Taranaki, Captain Lloyd, proceeded fIOHL the wharf for Northern ports at 2.15 p.m. yesterday. The weather yesterday was unusually boisterous, and caused a heavy sea at and about the wharf, and in consequence several of the vessels lying there had to get extra lines and moorings out The ship Border; Chief we must" especially mention as haring occasion to take lines across the wharf', for securing her against a south-easter, much to the detriment of ships or steamers-at NoM: and-3 berths discharging and loading; this was caused, we believe, by the piles at present laid down not being of sufficient strength; in fact, the few that are there are all started or not to be depended bn. ■’ The schooner Oreti, lying broadside to the wharf to the northward, sustained a little damage by haring two of her planks stove in just above the copper line; and the barque Union, which arrived on Sunday last, dragged her anchor, but with the aid of the best bower being let go, brought up in time! from the beach. These are the only mishaps that we are aware of. ~ ' The sailing of the s.s. Stormbird, on account of the. weather, is postponed till 11 a. m. this day. We have been requested to correct an error in yesterday morning's * paper with regard to the s.s, Taranaki’s passage from Taranaki to Nelson, the wind, as reported, was'N.W., whereas it should have read S.W; , The s.s. Eangatira, Captain Griffiths, left the wharf, at 5.20 p.m. yesterday for Napier and Poverty Bay: •
