PRINCE OF WALES’ BIRTHDAY.
To-morrow being the anniversary of the Prince of Wales’ Birthday, will be observed as a general holiday. Should the weather prove fine," pleasure seekers will have no difficult yin finding means to enjoy themselves. THE RAILWAY authorities have made special arrangements for the occasion, the following being the time-table for the day : Down trains, Wellington depart, 7.20, 9.10, 10.35, 12.0, 2.0, 1.0,5.40. Uptrains,Hutt depart, 8.25,9.50, 11.15, 12.40, 2.40, 4.45, 6.25. OPENING OF WESLEYAN CHURCH AT THE HUTT. Further services connected with the opening of the new Wesleyan Church at the Hutt will be held. At three o’clock the Rev. James Paterson will preach ; later on there will be a tea-meeting, and subsequently a public meeting. RIFLE SHOOTING. In the morning the conquering match between the Volunteer Artillery and the Armed Constabulary will be fired. CRICKET. Several cricket matches will be played, the principal being the Town v. Country, or Wellington v. Wairarapa match, to be played on the Basin Reserve. The country visitors will after the match be entertained at dinner, and afterwards will be invited to a soiree specially got up for their amusement. PLEASURE TRIP. The steamer Mauawatu will leave the wharf at intervals during the day on a pleasure trip to Somes Island. SPORTS. On the new recreation ground, Te Aro, a grand sports meeting will take place. An attractive programme has been published, the chief event in which is the match Edwards against time. THE THEATRE. A special holiday bill has been prepared, and the Darrells have been re-engaged for the occasion, “Catherine and Petruchio” being the principal item.
