Medical. POWELL b balsam OF ANISEED for Coughs, Asthma, Bronchitis. &c Testimonial from the Eev. W. LUSH. Vicar of Stix wold, and Editor of the “Remembrancer.' Stixwold Vicarage, Homcastle, Lincolnshire Dear Sir,—l have to acknowledge with my warmest thanks the receipt of a large bottle of your truly valuable Balsam of Aniseed for the benefit of my poor parisliioners. I need hardly say, in the face of winter, how truly acceptable such a present is. For the past 12 years I have been in the habit of using myself, giving away, and recommending your Balsam. I should not be exaggerating if I said I have never known it fail. Whenever I have a cough I use it in preference to anything else, and again and again it has cured me. I am fully aware, and you, my dear sir, would, I feel sure, equally with myself, recognise the fact that we are dependent in the use of all means on Him whose blessing maketU rich, but I rejoice that so often He has seen good to add that blessing to the use of Powell’s Balsam of Aniseed. I remain, my dear sir, &c., &c., WILLIAM LUSH. IMPORTANT TESTIMONIAL. Dear Sir,—l may tell you that I have used your Balsam for a very long time (both for myself and my family). I think it an invaluable medicine for members of my profession, and have always strongly recommended it to my brother and sister artists. If you think a testimonial from me would be of any service, you are very welcome to make use of this.—l am, dear Sir, yours truly, LIONEL BROUGH, Globe Theatre. THESE Watches in reality constitute the perfection of mechanism” is now admitted by many practical English watchmakers of standing and reputation. In fact, the Waltham Lever Watch secures accuracy and durability by the least complex mechanism; dispensing with the “ fusee,” chain, &c., and by means of a “ going barrel.” with a highly-finished graduated mainspring, obtains an accuracy of performance unsurpassed by the most expensive watch of English manufacture. The simplicity of construction necessarily renders the Watch less liable to get out of order, and it is more easily and inexpensively repaired in case of accident. It is enough, perhaps, to say in favor of the Waltham \\ utches that upwards of 800,000 of them have been already sold ; and that they are now being produced at the rate of 100.000 a year. Many people are surprised that America undertakes Jo supply watches to England. At first sight it seems like sending coals to Newcastle.” But the matter is easily explained. Nowhere except in America is watchmaking conducted on the principle of making a complete watch under one roof. In no other country are automatic machines used in the construction of every part of the watch. From these two facts arise economy, and therefore cheapness ; in addition to which the product of the factory is necessarily more uniform in quality than if manufactured in the disjointed manner common in England and Switzerland. The (Waltham) Watch Factory covers three acres, employs one thousand operatives, and produces 300 watches per day. 800,000 of its manufacture are now in use in America, giving perfect satisfaction. The Railway Watch,' manufactured by the American (Waltham) Watch Company, for the special use of railway employes and travellers, is noted for its accuracy as a timekeeper, and by the introduction of a quick “train” and more rapid “beat” is less liable to injury if dropped or knocked than the watch hitherto obtainable in the English market. The application also of Fogg’s Patent Centre pinion (one of the most __ important of modern improvements in watchmaking) is an additional security against sudden damage by the breaking of the mainspring, and consequent cracking of jewels, bending of teeth, &c. The above is recommended to all who are actively employed, and who require a reliable watch. Price Lists furnished to the Trade only on application to .
