TELEGRAPHIC NEWS.
(PEB PRESS AGENCY.) Dunedin, Friday. The ship mentioned in the telegram per Ringarooma cannot possibly be the Strathmore, for various reasons. The latter is a new ship registered at Dundee, not Liv erpool; secondly, she is 1472 tons, not 900 ; and it is considered that if she had caught fire the immense quantity of gunpowder on board would have blown her to atoms. The letters on the stem do not agree with her name. The space between the letters “MO” and “R” in the burnt ship’s name precludes all possibility of its being thejmissing ship. Bright Brothers, the agents, are of this opinion. A small fire broke out at eleven last night at Moray-place. Two shops—a plumber’s and the Rubber Stamp Company’s shop—were destroyed. The fire could not spread as it was hemmed in on both sides by brick buildings. The new brigade only attended. Their first practice was on Wednesday, and last night they turned out rapidly and worked well. The insurances are as follows ;—Webb, on stock, in New Zealand, £7OO ; .Standard, £4OO. The Stamp Company estimate their loss at £6OO, uninsured.
