SLAUGHTERED.

- It would be a pity if the notices of motion on the Parliamentary order paper which were relegated to obscurity on Wednesday were permitted to remain in an obscurity never contemplated by their authors. And it'further appearing that on presentation of tho said land orders, the Crown Lands Commissioner made an endorsement thereon to the effect that there was no land available out of which a selection could be made, this House, while not expressing any approval of the award, is of opinion that the good faith of the colony is pledged to the fulfilment of the award, and that the land orders should immediately be satisfied, either by setting apart land out of which the selection may be made, or by the payment of the value named in the award ; hut that under no circumstances ought either the grant of land or the payment of money to be charged against the province of Taranaki, the liability being clearly a colonial one, to be made good by the colony.
