ARRIVAL OF THE ALBION.
Hokitika, Wednesday.
The Albion left on the Mth, at 5.30 p.m. Experienced fine weather throughout. On the 13th passed a schooner painted white, bound westward. Passengers for Wellington : Mr. and Mrs. Aldons, and five steerage. The Suez mail was not telegraphed when the Albion left.

The Cape Ministry have summoned a special session of Parliament to consider Lord Carnarvon’s proposal for federation. The French Government have ordered the formation of a territorial army of 110,000 men. Melbourne, October 14.
The Ministry having resigned, Sir James M’Culloch was sent for, and the House adjourned to Tuesday, to enable him to complete the necessary arrangements. Nothing has yet transpired, but no doubt he will be successful. It is just possible Kerferd may be Chief Secretary and M’Culloch Premier and Treasurer. Opposition to the new Ministers is threatened.
At the inquiry as to the wreck of the Flying Squirrel on King’s Island, the master was acquitted from blame, as the rook struck upon was not shown on ordinary charts. Bentley, late manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Beechworth, has been convicted on sevex-al charges of making false entries, and is remanded for sentenct. Oats are very quiet. It is reported that large quantities are coming from New Zealand.

Treave is committed for trial for forging a promissory note for £4095. The information was laid by the Phoenix Building Society, of which he was secretary, at Mudgee. John Regan has been acquitted of the murder of his paramour. Drought at Yass is causing a serious apprehension for the crops. A disc-marker has been wounded by a volunteer, who fired at the wrong target.
