MR. QUICK ON THE NEW ZEALAND CHURCH.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sib,—Your reporter, in his precis ofjlast night's proceedings of the Diocesan Synod, causes it to appear that I spoke against the statement which had been made by other members to the effect that the Church of New Zealand was a provincial church and absolutely independent of; the mother Church. Your reporter entirely misunderstood me, and as the matter is one of the greatest importance to a large number of the members of our community, I must ask your permission to correct him.. AU churchmen are agreed as totho fact of the Church of the province of New. Zealand being entirely independent of the Church' of England, inasmuch o 3 she has a constitution of her own. My contention was that by that constitution (a voluntary compact of 'her members) we bound ourselves not to adopt anyalterationjin .the formularies. or articles of the Church not previously adoptedlby the Established Church of England. This view your readers will perceive to ibe quite consistent with the fact' of our being as independent of the mother church as any provincial church was independent, during the first three centuries.—l am, &c, j AV. H. Quick. Octobers. ' '
