CRIMINAL SITTINGS. Thursday, Ootoiser 7. (Before Chief Justico Prendergast and Juries of twelve.) Tho Court sat at 10 o'clock. SENTENCES. Akuhata, convicted o£ assault and robbery, was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment, with hard labor ; and Moffit, convicted of horse-stealing, received a sentence of eighteen months' imprisonment, with hard labor. PERJURY. The case against Eliza Smith, charged with perjury, was again proceeded with, and a number of witnesses were called for the prosecution. Mr. Buckley cross-examined each witness at length, and many conflicting answers were given. The last witness called for the prosecution was Mr. Sam Howard, who in cross-examination stated that he had heard a conversation between Cameron's wife and her aunt, Mrs. Gooden, immediately after they had left the grand jury room, in which the former said to the latter, " Why the devil didn't you

swear the same as I did ?" The parties concerned, when cross-examined by Mr. Buckley, had denied that the conversation had taken place. At 6.30 the case for the prosecution closed, and the Court adjourned. At 10 o'clock this morning Mr. Buckley will open the case for the prisoner.
