(PEB PBES3 AGENCY.) Auckland, Saturday. Conyers, second officer of the ship City of Auckland, has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, with hard labor, for broaching cargo during the voyage. Bertrand, a seaman, was sentenced to three months. Kerrish, a passenger, to seven days. Spier Dick, a passenger, was discharged ; and Percival, a boy, got forty-eight hours. The evidence showed that the second officer was the prime mover, and on this account the other sentences were light. The Bench severely condemned the heniousness of such an offence, knowing the danger incurred in creeping over twenty-five tons of gunpowder with naked lights. Some believe it to have been a hoax, but if so it nearly i esulted in drowning a seaman. It is probable that the tide carried the body out. Sunday.
