The steamer itlngaiooma arrived off the port yesterday, but owing to the high sea running she was not tendered until to-day. She leit for Melbourne direct at 2 o’clock this afternoon. AUCKLAND. A k rived : The Elizabeth Giraham, from London, 17th June. She brings 1109 tons cargo, including 300 barrels powder. Camille, from Newcastle, 23rd SepSailed : Christiana, barque, for Newcastle. The Immigrants per Invercargill will be landed on Tuesday. The so-called quarantine arrangements have been ridiculous, as the single girls were landed on Friday and the men yesterday. The quarantine flag is still flying and no commnnics tion allowed. The s.s. Stormbird. Captain Boile. left the Corporation Wharf, Wanganui, atll.Soa.rn. on the 2nd inst.; cleared the bar at 11.60. and arrived at the Wellington wharf at 11 p.m. the same day, having made a smart ran of Hi hours. Experienced N.W. winds, with heavy sea all the way. The p.s. Manawatn, Captain Evans, left Lyttelton at 11.5 am. on the 2nd inst., and arrived in Wellington at 9 a.m. yesterday. Experienced head winds up till 3 p.m. on Saturday, when ti e wind shifted round to the southward. The Manawatn having secured a fair wind, made a good passage from wharf to wharf of twenty-one hours. The s.s. Hawea, Captain Wheeler, left Port Chalmers at 4.15 p.m. on the Ist Inst., and arrived at Lyttelton at 10 a.m. next day; left again same evening at 0.16, and arrived at the Queen's Wharf at9.J5 yesterday. From Port Chalmers to Lyttelton she experienced a strong northerly breeze , from thence to Wellington a fresh south-westerly wind. About 2.15 yesterday morning the starboard steering chain was carried away, causing a delay of an hour-and-a-half.
The s.s. Eangatfra, Captain Griffiths, arrived at the Queen’s Wharf, from Poverty Bay and Napier, at 4.30 p.m. on the 2nd inst. She left Poverty Bay on the 31st nit. at 5 p.m., and passed Portland Island at 10 p.m. on the sameday, and arrived off Napier at 3 a.m. on the Ist inst. She left again at 11.30 a.m., and passed the Kidnappers at 1 p.m. and Cape Turnagain at 7.30 p.m.; w;*s off Castle Point at 11 30 p.m.; rounded Cape Palliser at 8 a.m. on the 2nd inst,, entering the Heads at 3.15 p in,, and arriving as above. She experienced from Poverty Bay to Napiera fresh N.W. wind, and from thence to Cape Palliser a fresh breeze varying from WJf. W. to S. W., where she met with a strong wind from the N.W. at 8 a.m , which gradually strengthened to a gale, and continued till her arrival at the Heads.
The B.a. Phcebe, Captain Wonip, left Dunedin on the let inst. at 2 p.m., and arrived at Lyttelton the next day at 9.30 a.m. She loft Lyttelton at 4.15 p.m. the same day, and arrived in Wellington at 8 a.m. yesterday. She experienced fresh *. W. weather throughout the passage. The s.s. Taranaki, Captain Lloyd, left the Manukau on the 29th nlfc, at 9.30 a.m. She experienced N.E. weather, and arrived at Taranaki at 5 a.m. on the 30th. The left at 7-40 a.m., and arrived at Nelson at 8.10 the same night. She sailed the next day at 9.25 a.m., and arrived at Plcton at 6.30 p.m. On Saturday at 4 a.m. she left PJcton ; encountered a heavy N. W. gale throughout the Strait, and arrived in this harbor at 9 a.m. the same day. The Taranaki left yesterday at noon with the mails lor Southern ports. The as. Bgmont, Captain Irvire, arrived in Wellington harbor at 12.80 on Saturday. She left Wellington for Wairauon Monday last. She there loaded a full cargo for Patea. She left Pa.tea for Wellington at 10.30 on Friday morning, andi arrived as above stated. She passed a three-masted schooner a few miles S.E. of Patea, and the ps. Luna off Terawiti, and experienced strong S.W. winds, with heavy sea ©n the passage. The schooner Aurora, Captain Romeril, came alongside the wharf at 8.30 a.m. yesterday from Castle Point and Pahau, alter a round trip of twelve days She experienced fine weather on the outward passage’ and very rough northerly weather on the inward ' The schooner Richard and Mary. Captain Hutchison, left Oamara at 10 p.m. last Wednesday, and moored alongside Plimmer's Wharf at 10 a.m. yesterday. She had favorable weather throughout the run and brought a full cargo of produos. ’ We have been Informed by private telegram that the New Zealand Company’s fine iron clipper ship Waikato has been sighted off the coast. She is commanded by Captain H. Rose, andls bound from London to Lyttelton. She will about ball fill up with wool, and then proceed to Wellington for the remainder of her cargo, the balk of which will consist of wool.
The brigantine Frances Lewey, from ISew York, recently arrived in Dunedin, and is the portion of her cargo consigned'to that port, after discharging which she .will have quick despatch* for Wellington with the balance of her cargo, which is consigned to this port. , ~, , The schooner Jane Elkin entered the Customs on Saturday She left Pelorus Sound on Wednesday with a cargo of timber. She was obliged, through stress of weather, to anchor off the Wellington pilot station during Thursday and Friday. The following return of arrivals at this port during the month of September has been published by the Piermaster :—Steamers, 64 ; tonnage, X 7,527. Sailing vessels, 33; tonnage, 5122. In August the figures were—Steamers. 58 ; tonnage, 14,544. Sailing vessels, 40; tonnage, 8393.
