Captain Johnston, late of the Magellan Cloud, died at the hospital to-day from the injuries received through falling down stairs. Hundreds of people assembled to-day to watch the boilers of the Wellington being lowered into the hold. The job was accomplished successfully. i Taukanga, Saturday. The Times this morning urges the completion of the Kati Kati road to Ohinemuri during the summer months. The Government is to be memorialised on the subject. Alexandra, Saturday. A large house is being built for Tawhiao at the new settlement of Hikurangi. There are a number of Kawhia natives there to assist, including several skilful carvers. A fair quantity of grain and hops has been disposed of during the week. * Christchurch, Saturday. The annual parade of entire horses yesterday was a great success. Fifty-nine horses were paraded, including several recent importations ; one, a Lincolnshire horse. Black Champion, cost 9SO guineas in Melbourne. Edwards won his match against time yesterday. He finished the 105 miles at; 7.53 last night, thus accomplishing the full distance in 7min. 3sec. under the 24 hours. He walked his last mile in 7min. 5/sec., amidst enthusias.

Edwards did not appear very distressed. He walked in the Odd Fellows' Ha}l. Timaru, Saturday. ' On the voyage out the Merope had a very narrow escape from collision with an iceberg.
