STAR CRICKET CLUB.

The seventh annual meeting of the members of this club was held at the Pier Hotel yesterday evening. The vice-president occupied the chair.

The following report of the committee was read and unanimously adopted :

In presenting the report for the past season, we have to congratulate members on the club having retained its prestige as the premier one of Wellington, having played thirteen matches, in ten of which we were victorious.

As members are doubtless aware, a learn chosen from the club visited the Wairarapa last February, and played matches with Greytown, Featherston, and Masterton and combined Wairarapa, in all of which we were victorious fa very poor return, indeed, for the kind and hospitable reception of our team), but we can only hope to repay their hospitality on their visit to Wellington, which it is expected will be on the Prince of Wales' birthday, and in view of which we have already secured the ground. It will be seen by the batting analysis, that Mr. Edmunds, whose average is 11 3-14ths, has the honor of winning the bat annually presented by the club to the highest average scorer. The list as shown below is the bowling analysis, by which it will be seen that Lockett carried off the honors with the leather. We would suggest that in future a bat should also be given to the best average bowler. The financial state of the club is as follows: Receipts, £34 4s. fid.; expenditure, £33 10s. Gd., leaving a balance to credit of 145., against which there is still due to the secretary a sum of £4 Ss. lOd. f rom the previous season ; but if all arrears (amounti,.g to £6 7s. 6d.) were paid up, there would be more than sufficient to pay off all accounts still outstanding. The above creditable financial position is in a great measure due to Mr. Mace, who worked indefatigably in enrolling honorary members. We cannot close our report without urging on members the necessity of constant practice, especially in fielding. [The batting and bowling analyses referred to above are unavoidably held over.]

The following were the matches won by the club during the past season, against the following antagonists : —lß74.—November 21, against the Armed Constabulary CO., by 2 runs and 8 wickets ; December 26, against Pahautanui C.C., by 1 run and 6 wickets. 1875.—January 9, against the Victoria CO., by 7 runs ; January 16, against the Pahautanui CO., by 47 runs and one innings ; January 23, against the Victoria CO., by 36 runs ; February 16, against the Greytown C.C., by 72 runs ; February 17, against the Masterton C.C. by 63 runs and 1 innings ; February IS, against the Wairarapa C.C. by 59 runs ; February 19, against the Featherston C.C. by 3 runs and 5 wickets ; March 10, against the Wellington C.C. by 8 runs and 2 wickets. The following were the matches lost by the club during the past season 1874 : —December 5, against the Wellington C.C. by 40 runs ; December 12, against the Armed Constabulary C.C. by 13 runs and 1 innings. 1875, January 23, against the Armed Constabulary C.C. by 4 runs. The following gentlemen were balloted for and duly elected new members of the Star Cricket Club :—Messrs. Loivry, Browell, llenrv, Kobson, Munt, Kainie, Duncan, Armata«e, Mapleston, and I. J. Salmon. The meeting then proceeded to elect officebearers for the ensuing year, with the following results :—President, Mr. Bromley : Vice-Pre-sidents, Messrs. Mace and I. J. Salmon; Secretary, Treasurer, and Captain, Mr. J. A. N. Salmon ; Committee, Messrs. Edmonds, Bishop, George, Mason, Henry, I. J. Salmon, and Russell. The club then unanimously adopted the following resolution :—That the secretary of the Star Cricket Club be requested to write to the secretaries of the other Wellington clubs, in order to get together a deputation to wait upon the trustees of the Basin Reserve to represent their respective clubs, that some knowledge may be arrived at from the said trustees with respect to the financial state of their funds ; that a meeting of practical men may hereafter be held conjointly with the trustees to make the Basin Reserve a fit and proper ground for the Wellington cricketers. It was then proposed by Mr. Bromley, seconded by Mr. Edwards, and unanimously

agreed to, that the condolence of the members of the club be conveyed to Mr. J. A. N. Salmon in his present illness, caused by the late unfortunate accident.

The folkwingresolutionwas also agreed to:— That a meeting of the club be held to make the necessary arrangements for the forthcoming Wairarapa combined match. It was also unanimously agreed that the next season of the Star Cricket Club do commence on Saturday next, the 25th inst. ■***%€ meeting then adjourned.
